Derrick Cameron

Derrick and Melody Cameron reside in Mabou, Cape Breton, on the same farm where Derrick grew up. Melody is a skilled Cape Breton-style dancer and fiddle player, and they've been performing together in Canada's Maritime Provinces and the New England States for several years. The duo has shared the stage with other Cape Breton musicians at the Stan Rogers Folk Festival, performed at the Washington Irish Folk Festival, and taught workshops and entertained at the North Atlantic Fiddle Convention in Aberdeen, Scotland. They also play for various dances, pubs, and concerts throughout Cape Breton Island. Melody and Derrick were featured in the Genuine Pictures documentary "And They Danced" and have released three albums. Their most recent album, "Sincerely," includes guest appearances by Mac Morin, Joy Dunlop, Lisa Cameron, Jamie Foulds, and J.P. Cormier. Since 2005, Derrick and Melody have served as coordinators for Féis Mhàbu's Musical Mentorship Program, which brings talented young players together with experienced tradition bearers and has been highly successful.
