Rannie MacLellan

Rannie MacLellan began playing the fiddle at the age of 12, thanks to his mother, who taught him his first tune, despite not being a fiddle player herself, but rather a skilled piano accompanist. At the age of 14, Rannie played his first concert at the South West Margaree Hall, way back in 1965 when fiddlers rarely travelled. He learned many tunes from the Fiddlers of that era, his Dad, Buddy MacMaster, Donald Angus Beaton, Cameron Chisholm, Angus Allan Gillis, and others. Since relocating to PEI, Rannie has performed at various events such as the Rollo Bay Fiddle Festival, Atlantic Fiddler's Jamboree, QEH telethon, PEI Festival or Small Halls, and numerous ceilidhs and dances, as well as playing with the talented Chaisson Trio group. Over the past twenty-five years, Rannie has composed around forty fiddle tunes.
