About Rodney
Rodney J. MacDonald is a highly skilled recording artist, composer, and step dancer hailing from a family of renowned musicians known for their traditional “Mabou Coal Mines” fiddle style, drive, compositions, and timing. With his cousin Dr. Glenn Graham, he recorded Traditionally Rockin’ after his debut album, Dancer’s Delight. Additionally, he has contributed to various compilations, including the Smithsonian’s The Beaton Family of Mabou: Cape Breton Fiddle and Piano Music and Celtic Traditional Lullabies From Our Cape Breton.
Beyond his musical prowess, Rodney MacDonald served as the Premier of Nova Scotia and is a fervent advocate for Gaelic language and culture. He founded the Nova Scotia Office of Gaelic Affairs and co-founded Cape Breton’s beloved Kitchenfest! festival. He is the President of Colaisde na Gaidhlig / The Gaelic College and its satellite campus, Beinn Mhàbu. Rodney and his family reside in Mabou, Cape Breton, where he generously volunteers his time to various charitable organizations and boards.
